Miraflores District is an upscale neighborhood in Lima. If you get a chance to visit, treat yourself to a stroll on the cliffs overlooking the South Pacific coastline. Start at the attractive Larcomar mall complex and work your way north toward Parque del Amor. From there, you can take Malecón back to the heart of the district.

Parque Kennedy is at the heart of Miraflores. The park bustles with activity from morning ’til night, especially on holidays like Día del Trabajo (Labor Day) on May 1st.

Close to the park is a sandwich shop called La Lucha Sanguchería Criolla; try the Chicharrón sandwich!

I tasted three fruits for the first time in Peru—granadilla, camu camu, and lúcuma!

Believe it or not, you can visit ruins right inside of Miraflores at Huaca Pucllana.

You can even paraglide right off the cliffs in Miraflores!

Great artesanal coffee scene in Peru! I visited Dédalo Arte y Café, ChocoMuseo, Arabica Espresso Bar and La Emolienteria.

Chef Gastón Acurio Jaramillo is celebrated for importing Peruvian cuisine to the rest of the world. His restaurant, Astrid&Gastón, was one of two restaurants in Lima recognized in “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” 2013 list. The other was Central Restaurante where my friend, Kiersten, and I enjoyed dinner and a private tour.

We chose four dishes to share—and the half portions were hearty. Our meal was unforgettable!
