At the Lübecker Weihnachtsmarkt in Lübeck, Germany While on this day trip from Cologne, I also stopped in the Theaterfiguren Museum to see an internationally-renowned collection of marionettes, musical instruments, barrel organs, stage props and posters from three continents. The artifacts told stories of Indian myths, Chinese rituals, African tribes and German fairs. Kind of creepy to see so many stationary puppets in one house, but still, worth seeing!
Seeing Cologne for the first time…including from the Panorama Platform at the Köln Triangle! At the Kölner Dom (Cathedral) with Neil, Veronika and Alan My friends, Alan and Veronika, locked in their love on a bridge called Hohenzollernbrücke. I immersed myself in the fascinating—and at times, heart-wrenching—history of Berlin by taking a four-hour English language walking tour through Insider Tour. Many of the sites that were bombed during WWII were restored—but I appreciate that the effects of the bombing were left untouched as a constant reminder of the tragedies war causes. Spitzingsee is an hour’s drive south of Munich, not too far from the Germany-Austria border. Here you can enjoy alpine sledding on wooden toboggans! After hiking up Wallberg Mountain, the 5k sled run back down is an absolute thrill! After sledding, reward yourself with a delicious, giant slice of cake from Café Winklstüberl in Fischbachau. YUM!
