With only 12 days and much to see across Colombia, it was a toss up between flying into the newly transformed Medellin or the capital city. I took the recommendation of my friend Nadia and decided on Bogotá. The best city views are atop Cerro de Monserrate. Beloved as a religious site, locals make the arduous climb to attend mass, dine at the many restaurants or watch the sunset. I took the funicular up, which had full cars even at 7:30 am on a Saturday […]
In Amritsar: Amritsar is a touristy city near the border of Pakistan. I visited here on the recommendation from a good friend and am so happy I did. While the city is smaller than most of the popular destinations in India, there are two sites that make the eight hour train ride from New Delhi worthwhile. Every day at 4:30 pm, there is a ceremony at Wagah border, where India and Pakistan meet. Wagah border is an hour by car […]
We set out early in the morning for a scenic drive from Galway to Connemara, heading first to the lovely Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden which overlooks a glassy lough. The weather was a bit rainy and foggy (not all that surprising for August in Ireland), but the grounds were still beautiful to tour. The uphill walkway from the castle to the cathedral carried us through a lush green forest which was even prettier to see in the drizzling rain.
I was excited to visit Vietnam since it’s the city where my father was born. I was captivated by watching daily life unfold… The scenes were stunning! Getting caught in morning traffic wasn’t any fun at all… But I loved seeing so many cyclists! I was really impressed with what local businesses do to care for those less fortunate. Two places I visited were Koto (Know One – Teach One) who help underprivileged youth and Craft Link where they sell handmade crafts […]
Visiting the Historic Centre of Siena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Siena is the embodiment of a medieval city. We ascended the Tower of Mangia Tower to overlook Piazza del Campo and the surrounding city. It is attached to an old hospital called Santa Maria della Scala. Dawn and her parents, Jim and Kathy, showed me all around Quito, Ecuador. The City of Quito is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it is the best-preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America. Dawn and I even climbed to the top of the Basilica!
